New Digital Products

From Dan Harden at 16:06 BST

There is big news in the digital realm, for today we launch our first Digital Editions to be available on Android, Kindle and iBooks. Over the coming months you'll be able to collect a wide range of digital publications - some will be past articles recovered from the depths of the Administratum, while others will contain brand-new, never-before seen material.

As mentioned above, these Digital Editions are available on a wide range of devices, from iPads and iPhones to Smart Phones, Android devices and Kindles, meaning that no matter what platform you prefer, you should always be able to download and enjoy them.

The first five books to be made as Digital Editions are the first instalments in three new series: Warlords of the Dark Millennium, Munitorum and Index Astartes. Warlords of the Dark Millennium is an in-depth look at some of the most famous heroes (and villains) of the Warhammer 40,000 universe and features an extended background for each character, a detailed look at their wargear (featuring new artwork) and rules for using them in games. You can download the first book in the series here:

Warlords of the Dark Millennium: Azrael

Munitorum is, as you'd expect, all about weapons. Each publication focuses on a specific weapon of the 41st Millennium, giving you detailed information about how the weapons work, how they are made and what type of ammunition they fire. There are also full rules for each weapon for use in your games. The first weapons to be scrutinised in intricate detail are the shuriken catapult and the Ranger long rifle, which can be downloaded here:

Munitorum: Shuriken catapults
Munitorum: Ranger long rifle

The last Digital Editions out this week are from a classic and perennial fan-favourite: Index Astartes. The Index Astartes series was first published in White Dwarf, then as a series of four books before disappearing into the immaterium. Now these articles are back and the first ones to be published as Digital Editions are about Dreadnoughts and the Codex Astartes. They can be downloaded here:

Index Astartes: Codex Astartes
Index Astartes: Dreadnoughts

In other news:

We've recently opened two new Games Workshop stores, one in South Shields in the UK and the other in Dayton, Ohio in the US. You can find out more about them and check out their opening times on their Facebook pages:

New Warhammer World events

From Dan Harden at 16:06 BST

Today a host of new Warhammer World event tickets have gone on sale including Battle Brother events for both Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000, the Warhammer 40,000 Throne of Skulls in September and the Legendary Battlefield: Blackfire Pass.

Each event has a unique format, allowing you to find a way of playing that suits you. Where the Throne of Skulls is a solo event that enables you to pitch your army against multiple opponents over the course of a weekend, the Battle Brothers events are played with two players per side. It's a great opportunity to team up with a friend, colleague, family member or total stranger (it has happened) and take on other teams from around the world. Legendary Battlefields, on the other hand, are huge mass-participation events. These are the kind of games that most hobbyists want to play, but rarely have the time or space to do it. This Legendary Battlefield takes place in Blackfire Pass, one of the most contested regions in the Old World. Complete with secret missions, mysterious occurrences and huge monsters, this will be an epic battle to remember. You can order your tickets for these events here:

Legendary Battlefields: Blackfire Pass

Also coming up soon on the 22nd and 23rd of June is the second part of the Vidar's Fate Campaign being run by Warhammer World. After the events that took place on the planet of Darkfall, the campaign has now moved on to Praedis Zeta, where a sinister alien presence has reared its ugly head.

What makes this event different is that in addition to your campaigning army you also have access to two campaign-specific units - the Astartes Alien Hunters and Genestealer Cultists, making this a great opportunity to get out your bits box and convert some unique miniatures. You can see the ones that Nick Bayton has created above as an example. You don't need to have attended the first campaign weekend to take part in the Praedis Zeta event, though if you are planning on taking part you will need to order your ticket soon as the event is only a few weeks away. You can download the event information pack here and purchase tickets by following this link:

The return of Daenyathos

From Dan Harden at 16:05 BST

Daenyathos, by renowned author Ben Counter, is now available to pre-order. This hard-back novella is available to pre-order from the Games Workshop website right now, though you'll be able to pick it up right off the shelf from your local Games Workshop Hobby Centre next weekend. Complete with a brand new cover featuring a Space Marine Dreadnought, this is the novella that explains the sinister background of the Soul Drinkers Chapter of Space Marines.

For those of you not aware of Daenyathos, he is regarded by the Soul Drinkers Space Marine Chapter as the greatest warrior-philosopher of all time and the creator of the Catechisms Martial, the book that guides the thoughts and actions of the Soul Drinkers.

The Fang Painting Competition

From Dan Harden at 16:05 BST

The Fang Painting Competition is held annually in many Games Workshop Hobby Centres across Northern Europe and is a great opportunity for painters to show off their latest creations. The other weekend the winners from Hobby Centres across Belgium and The Netherlands brought their entries to Amsterdam to take part in this year's finals. The quality of the painting was exceptional and we hope to show many of the winners in White Dwarf magazine in the future. Until then, take a look at the overall winning entry painted by Gert D'Hollander and, further down, the Armies on Parade winner painted by Peter Zuidgeest.

Gert's Duel entry is incredibly dynamic and really captures the feel of two warriors about to clash in close combat. The Space Marine is the Raven Guard character Shadow Captain Korvydae, while the Ork has been converted from the Savage Orc plastic hero miniature. The addition of an iron gob, a trophy Space Marine helmet and a 'uge choppa wiv whirry teef gives the model a more futuristic, though no-less savage, appearance. Of particular note are the tiny tattoos all over the Ork's body and the realistic weathering all over Korvydae's armour.

This year's Armies on Parade winner was incredible (a word I don't use lightly). When you spent 20 minutes looking at a display and go back for another look later then you know you've got a winner on your hands. Peter has put a huge amount of work into his board, which features Space Marines of the Emperor's Children Legion deploying for war on Isstvan V. Many of the models are Forge World Kits, including the impressive Storm Eagle Gunship flying above the Shrine of the Aquila at the back of the board. We hope to show more of Peter's entry in the future.

But that's not all. While one painting competition was being run in Amsterdam there was another being held in Stockholm. Here's the winning entry from The Fang Stockholm:

Robert Carlsson's entry was a classic Ork Nob - it was actually the exclusive miniature from Games Day 1998. Robert has captured the feel of this miniature perfectly: the bulging muscles on the Ork's arms and back are blended seamlessly, while the veins on its biceps and forearms stand out stark and raw from its green skin. Every intricate detail has been carefully painted, including freehand hazard stripes and checks on his slugga and shoulder pad. A look at the close-up picture of the Nobz face below (which is shown much larger than actual size) shows just how exceptional Robert's painting is.

May’s White Dwarf Preview

From Dan Harden at 16:04 BST

May's issue of White Dwarf is out on Saturday in all Games Workshop Hobby Centres and all good independent stockists. As always it will be packed with hobby articles, from our stage-by-stage painting guides in Paint Splatter to the action-packed Battle Report. Here's a little of what you can expect in May's issue:

The Tartaros-pattern Terminators above are just a small part of Mark Bedford's Blood Angels army, which we were lucky enough to photograph for Army of the Month. As one of Forge World's most prominent sculptors it's no surprise that Mark has many of their kits in his collection and many of his miniatures have been converted using Forge World bits packs combined with Blood Angels models.

The Angels of Death appear later in the issue too, but this time in the guise of the Dark Angels. Adam Troke, a veteran of many wars and an avid Dark Angels collector, explains how he likes to use his army in a new article: Armchair General.

Jes' Ogres are back for a Battle Report rematch this month after their pitiful display against Andrew's Warriors of Chaos in November. Since that battle Jes has added more Mournfang Cavalry and a Stornhorn to his collection, but will they be enough to defeat Matt and his army?

There are two Parade Ground articles in May's White Dwarf and both of them feature walkers - some Dreadnought-sized and others considerably bigger. This Sons of Horus Contemptor Dreadnought, painted by Duncan Rhodes, is just one of the many two-legged war machines to be found in the issue. And, sandwiched between the two Parade Ground articles, is a six-page Kit Bash featuring several bizarre, but inspirational, conversions.

But that's not all. John Blanche presents a collection of weird and wonderful miniatures painted by Golden Demon winner Julian Bayliss in Blanchitsu, regular columnists Jervis Johnson and Jeremy Vetock tell us more about painting and games mastering respectively, we've got the latest news from Forge World and Black Library and a host of new Citadel miniatures are featured throughout the issue. To get your hands on May's issue of White Dwarf, make sure you're in your local stockist on Saturday. Alternatively, why not set up a subscription and have it delivered to your doorstep or download it from the Apple Newsstand for your iPad.
