Chaos in the snow

From Dan Harden at 16:12 GMT

Here in the UK winter draws ever closer and with it the promise of snow. In an effort to garner favour with the gods of winter and make this a white Christmas, I've made it my mission to find as many miniatures with snow bases as possible and feature them on the blog over the festive period. Today it's a beautiful collection of Warriors of Chaos painted by Mathias Tegtmeyer.

"I wanted to paint my Warriors of Chaos in a different colour scheme to the usual dark and dirty metals that you normally see," comments Mathias on the blue amour of his warriors. "I use Caledor Sky as the basecoat followed by a wash of Nuln Oil and then a further layer of Caledor Sky. A highlight of Lothern Blue followed by a mix of White Scar and Lothern Blue on the very top edges of the armour finishes the main colour off nicely." The combination of blue armour, pale skin and snowy bases certainly gives Mathias' army a distinctly cold feel.

Nearly every model in Mathias' army has been converted in some way using plastic components from the whole Chaos range, including Beastmen, Daemons of Chaos and even a few Chaos Space Marine components. His Warriors of Tzeentch feature so many conversions that it's difficult to know quite where to look first. Many of them feature extra limbs or gross mutations such as tentacles, horns and bestial heads. Mathias was also not afraid to use some of the character models from the Warriors of Chaos range in his units too - if you look carefully you can see conversions of Sigvald, Wulfrik, a Khorne Lord and the Chaos Sorcerer model hidden amongst them. He's also made a very impressive unit diorama in the form of a leering Daemon Prince that takes pride of place in his regiment of Marauders, many of which are also converted using Beastmen parts.

Mathias hasn't finished with his Warriors of Chaos collection though - far from it. he's already working on a unit of Skullcrushers, the Warshrine and the Hellstriders, all of which we hope to feature on White Dwarf Daily in the near future.

In other news:

In the warmer climes of South Australia where they've never heard of snow, we'll soon be opening a new Hobby Centre in Warradale. Their grand opening is on Saturday 8th December, so if you're in the area (or you fancy a long flight over) then make sure you pay them a visit. More information can be found on their Hobby Centre Facebook page.

There's also exciting news on the video games front from Creative Assembly, the makers of the Total War series who, earlier today, announced that they'll soon be starting work on a new game based in the Warhammer world. You can find out more on their website: www.creative-assembly.com.
