Dark Vengeance: The Deathwing
This week we will be taking a look at each of the new models in the boxed set. Our fist candidates are the Dark Angels characters - Company Master Balthasar and Librarian Turmiel. To see more of Interrogator-Chaplain Seraphicus, check out Friday's blog post.
As you can see from the 360 rotation of Balthasar above, the models in this kit are absolutely covered in detail. Every crease and fold in their robes is intricately sculpted and even the trim on their capes has been embossed onto them, meaning that you don't have to try and paint it on by hand (a fiddly process at the best of times). Both characters wear a belt full of equipment, from the grenades and icons hanging from Balthasar to the keys and books sculpted onto Turmiel.
Not only that, but they are also push-fit miniatures, as you can see from the pictures in the gallery above. It's quite amazing to see how the pieces go together on these kits and the process is very intuitive. Even without a set of instructions (Servitor 13's print function is on the blink) I was able to put them together very quickly with virtually no cleaning. Mould lines, it seems, are so last decade. You can see a few of the 'Eavy Metal painted models further down the gallery.
The Deathwing are the elite 1st Company of the Dark Angels and, as such, they will always go to war clad in a suit of ancient Terminator armour. Each Terminator is covered in lavish detail and four out of the five of them are completely unique miniatures, making them real collector's pieces and a stunning unit to paint.
My favourite miniature in the squad has to be the Terminator with the assault cannon. His lower leg armour is studded, showing that his armour is extremely ancient, his belt is hung with 10 tiny daggers, and across his chest hangs a clutch of feathers - a well-known symbol of the Deathwing. He also has a formidable pose, one that suggests the imminent destruction of his foes, either with his clenched power fist or the massive customised assault cannon that he's toting on his other arm.
Make sure you check back tomorrow to see Kranon the Relentless - the Chaos Space Marine Lord - and Draznicht's Ravagers - the sinister Chosen.
