Death from above

From Dan Harden at 16:07 BST

There's nothing quite like a noble High Elf lord swooping into battle on a Griffon, his eyes firmly set on his intended prey.

This beautiful diorama was painted by Ian Williams-Davis, who got The Island of Blood set last Christmas. He liked the swooping posture of the Griffon and felt that it would look great diving from the sky, talons outstretched to tear apart its foes - in this case a pair of Chaos Warriors who are blissfully unaware of the pain that is about to descend upon them.

The rocks were pieces of slate that Ian found in the garden and fortunately his wife hasn't noticed the gradual disappearance of the rockery as yet. To add colour to the base Ian painted the coals on the fire as if they were glowing and gave one of the Chaos Warriors a glowing amulet, which, according to Ian, blazes into life when Elves are nearby. Hopefully the next bearer of the amulet will pay a little more attention...
