Even more pictures from the School League
Last week I showed off a few pictures from the School League finals here at Warhammer World and I mentioned that I would try to fit in a few more if I had the time. Well this morning I had a few spare minutes and, seeing as we're celebrating the launch of Warhammer 40,000 at the moment, I thought I'd show you a few of the other best-painted Warhammer 40,000 armies from the event.
Andrew Lindsay is a bit of a veteran when it comes to School League competitions. Last year he brought a Space Wolves army with him, but found that he lacked manoeuvrability compared to other, nippier armies. So this year he opted for an elite force of Grey Knights in Razorbacks, which combine guns with transport capacity - a good combination in smaller games. He also took Castellan Crowe to lead his army, which means that his Purifier squads became Troops choices.
Andrew started painting the army before the new Citadel Paint range came out, and apparently painting the white drove him to the brink of insanity. He actually gave up on the tanks for a time until the new paints came out and then set about them with a pot of Ceramite White mixed with a little Lahmian Medium to get ultra-smooth coverage.
According to Andrew "Crowe's record in the League this year has been mixed. A couple of times he ended up dead on the first turn. He even killed himself once trying to use Cleansing Flame. At other times, however, he was a combat monster, happily ploughing through Guardsmen, Space Marines, Tervigons and even another Castellan Crowe (clearly an impostor). Despite his mixed success I've grown quite fond of him."
The second force I have to show off also contains Grey Knights, but this time they are led into battle by an Inquisitor. This strike force was painted by Robert Atkin, who chose a commander with a relatively low points cost in order to accommodate a Dreadnought into the army list. Much like Andrew's army above, Robert has also opted for Razorbacks to make his army more manoeuvrable.
Of particular interest was the bone power armour and the energy effect that Robert has achieved on the Nemesis force weapons. We also really liked his objective marker featuring a wounded Guardsman and a transmitter beacon with working lights.
This Sisters of Battle army was painted by Philip Perrin, who went for a beautiful dusty turquoise colour scheme on his models. We particularly liked the freehand roses that he painted onto his banners and objective markers.
The Exorcist tank was the centrepiece of the army and drew a lot of attention throughout the event, not least because of the huge number of missiles it fires every turn.

We've just been told that there will be tickets available on the door for the Warhammer 40,000 Open Day being held here at Warhammer World on Saturday, so if you didn't order one and you still want to go, then you can. Considering the number of Studio staff that will be there and the huge number of activities taking place, it is going to be a very exciting day. Oh, and if anyone uses my Ork Bommer during the aerial combat game then make sure you let me know how many kills it gets so that I can chalk them up on the fuselage.
