War on a massive scale part II

From Dan Harden at 10:06 BST

As promised yesterday, we've got another huge Apocalypse game to show off on the blog. This time Mark Sarton and Charlie Brassley took on Jeff Scarisbrick-Wright and Stephen Dipper in a recreation of the battle for Helsreach Hive. At the start of the game Stephen held the bridge in the centre of the board with his Space Marines from the White Hand Chapter (who were taking the place of the Black Templars) and a couple of Imperial Guard platoons. He quickly found himself outnumbered by a truly vast collection of Orks painted by Mark and Charlie, which featured plenty of bizarre vehicular conversions, many of which you can see below.

In Turn 2, Jeff's Blood Angels arrived planet-side and started to tear into the Orks from behind before more Ork reinforcements arrived and returned the favour. With 8500 points per side, this was one battle that was bound to take a very long time. In fact, they were still battling away four hours later when I walked back through the Warhammer World gaming hall. It was nice to see that the Vindicator holding the bridge in the centre of the table was still alive - either a testament to the fact that Space Marine tanks are very well armoured or that Orks are notoriously bad at shooting. Or a combination of the two.
