For more than a hundred centuries the Emperor has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Earth. Now how good does that look, eh? So many fantastic things to look at and barely enough time to see them all. I bet you clicked on the pause button a fair few times during that video - I know I did. I honestly think my head might explode with excitement.
(Sadly I've just been told I'm not allowed to let my head explode as I've got to come to work on Monday. It's a tough life...)
With the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 we wanted to celebrate the release with a couple of beautiful limited edition sets. When we opened up the Collector's Edition we were amazed at how thick the book was. At over two inches wide - almost three if you include the leatherette case that it comes in - it is a real beast. Every page is printed on high quality parchment paper that gives the whole book an impressivefeel. It smells great too (I know I'm not the only one that smells new books). Each of the 4000 Collector's Edition Rulebooks are individually numbered and never to be repeated, so they'll inevitably be popular.
Meanwhile, the Gamer's Edition includes a very swanky officer's satchel, the standard rulebook and a set of fancy red Munitorum dice in a tin shaped like a lasgun cartridge - the quality is astounding. The satchel is tough but flexible, it's got three small internal pockets and a choice of badges that can go on the front depending upon your allegiance - an Imperial Eagle or a Chaos Star. It is, of course, big enough to hold the 452-page rulebook that comes with the set and the lasgun dice tins fit snuggly in the pouches on the front. If you place your order by the end of Sunday and choose to have them delivered to your local Games workshop then we will ensure that they are waiting there for you. You could even open your Gamer's Edition right there and then and parade around town wearing it for all to see. Alternatively you could have them sent to your home, but we all know that's not quite as much fun.
But there's more. As we all know, no game is complete without templates and these ones are surely the coolest we've ever released. The template set has been created to look like a set of Munitorum instruments with fully sculpted details around the edges and a blue lightning effect radiating out from the middle. There's also a deck of Psychic Power Cards, which includes 35 large-format cards with a host of new Psychic Powers written on them. I'm personally looking forward to finding out more about the Biomancy Psychic Discipline.
The new edition of Warhammer 40,000 is, of course, very big news for all of us and the best way to find out more about it is to check out this month's issue of White Dwarf, which covers it in detail. If you want to find out more about vehicle rules, psychic powers, the new terrain rules and Flyers then this is the place to find out.
There is also a huge 25-page article featuring the new armies that the guys in the Studio have painted up in anticipation of the new rules. There are armies from Carl Dafforn's Black Templars, which we showed briefly on the blog the other month, to Joe Tomaszewski's Necrons. There's even a Beastman in Mike Anderson's Imperial Guard regiment. I reckon the recruiting laws are becoming a bit lax these days.
As always, there is plenty more to see in White Dwarf, some of which you can see in the pictures above. However, we don't want to spoil all the surprises - you'll just have to pick up a copy yourself over the weekend. Remember, you can also set up a subscription to White Dwarf too, which is a great way to ensure that you never miss an issue. You also save a bit of cash at the same time, which can only be a good thing!
