The Hive Fleets have arrived

From Dan Harden at 16:02 GMT

There's been plenty of fangs and fur in today's blogs and not nearly enough tentacles and multi-limbed monstrosities, so we decided to chuck a couple of Tyranids into the mix. Last Thursday we featured Alexander Knauf's Doom of Malan'tai, which he converted and painted as part of his growing Tyranid army. Well the man behind the paintbrush is back, and it looks like he's been pretty busy...

Alex started this Tyranid army, known as Hive Fleet Apophis, around April last year, and it has already grown to around 4500 points. These are just a few of his Elite choices for the army, including two Zoanthropes, a Death Leaper, two Hive Guard and a Scythed Hierodule. Okay, so the Hierodule isn't technically an Elite unit, but it is still a very cool model.

What we particularly liked about Alex's models was the colour scheme. The dark blue skin and the black carapace go together really nicely - it gives the Tyranids a really sinister appearance. You can imagine them lurking in the darkness of a Hive World (especially the Deathleaper), only emerging when the enemy gets close enough to chop, slice or eat to death. Alex chose to paint the bioweapons and claws in a bright bone colour, providing a great contrast to the rest of the model and a focal point to draw the eye.
