Exclusive Battle Mission; Space Wolves
It's only been four days since we released Battle Missions yet the Studio are already thinking of more missions for you to use in your games of Warhammer 40,000. To give them somewhere to put all of the new scenarios they come up with, we've created the Battle Mission Archive. The first extra mission is in the archive and ready for you to download: Close Quarters Action allows you to fight a taught, close-range engagement. You can play the part of an entrenched defender, hiding amongst dense terrain, or an overwhelming attacking force that must avoid the death that's waiting around every corner. The Defensive Fire special rule is particularly characterful - the defender gets to fire after the attacker has moved.
Last week, Matt Weaver from Games Workshop Australia popped by the office with a figure case full of converted Space Wolves miniatures. We were suitably impressed, see what you think:
-
This is Hakon the Iron Priest & his Thunderwolf (Matt names all of his Space Wolves). When I asked him what inspired the conversion he said 'I liked the idea of a fatally wounded Iron Priest and Thunderwolf being rebuilt together. And, as the pose on the Canis Wolfborn model and the Chaos Daemon Bloodcrusher are similar, it was easy to mix the two kits.' All of the tubing and wires are actually guitar wire and, according to Matt, 'It's not a proper conversion unless you've used two different power tools'.
-
Arngeir Bold has apparently yet to survive a battle 'I tend to get a bit carried away with him and throw him straight into combat' said Matt. He added the Minotaur skull from the Orc kit to the front of the bike and the banner from the same kit to the rear. Matt actually followed the Dark Angel instructions for painting banners in March's White Dwarf (the freehand masterclass) when painting the banner. The rider himself was made using parts from the Wolf Pack kit and the Wolf Guard Terminator kit.
-
Matt assembled his Wolf Lord using parts from the Space Wolves Wolf Guard Terminators kit. After undercoating the model with Chaos Black, he used the Spray Gun to apply a basecoat of Fenris Grey (Matt basecoated all of his Space Wolves at the same time). He then built up highlights beginning with a mix of Shadow Grey, Space Wolves Grey and Kommando Khaki; adding more Space Wolves Grey into the mix for successive layers.
-
Matt's army is normally led to battle by Logan Grimnar, who lets you field Wolf Guard as Troop choices, so he has several units of Wolf Guard Terminators in his collection. The Wolf Guard in the centre of the picture has the Forge World Space Wolves torso and Matt occasionally uses him as a Lone Wolf rather than a Wolf Guard. If you look closely you'll also spot a Wolf Guard carrying a combi-plasma, which Matt took from the Chaos Terminators kit.
-
All of the weapons were basecoated with Boltgun Metal and then washed with Devlan Mud. The faces were painted with Tallarn Flesh, washed with Ogryn Flesh and then highlighted with Dwarf Flesh followed by a 60/40 mix of Dwarf Flesh and Elf Flesh. This is Matt's Blood Claw pack and if you click on the image you'll see his Long Fangs.
