Getting Started with Battle Missions; Battle Missions in Action; Dreadnoughts
With Battle Missions launched over the weekend, Adam Troke and Andy Hall have begun adding some new articles to the Astronomican. Adam's Getting Started with Battle Missions is a great introduction to the book and features some example pages for you to look at. It also explains how to pick a battle mission and looks at some of the new kits that were released alongside the book. In Battle Missions in Action, Andy Hall reports on three missions as they unfold, picking out the tactical challenges in each.
It hasn't taken long for Battle Missions fever to spread around the building, and virtually every desk and paint station has a walker of one sort or another on it. Here's a look at a selection of Space Marine Dreadnoughts from around the building:
-
Matt painted the new Venerable Dreadnought to use with his Crimson Fists Space Marine army. He painted the power fist Mechrite Red and the armour Mordian Blue before applying a Badab Black wash to the entire model. He then highlighted the armour and power fist by again using Mechrite Red and Mordian Blue.
-
Jim Lister converted his Venerable Dreadnought by swapping the head for Sergeant Chronus', so that it matched the rest of his Iron Hands army. And in a display of honesty he says 'I just wanted to make sure it was different from everyone else's'. So if you happen to copy Jim's conversion, be sure to send me a picture...
-
Another of Jim's Dreadnoughts (he's collected quite a few over the years); this conversion was based on the old, metal Venerable Dreadnought. Jim wanted his model to have a more simplistic, brutal feel to it, and used Green Stuff to fill in all of the intricate detailing and bulk out the armour plating. He's also added a standard Dreadnought sarcophagus plate.
-
Jim modelled these Dreadnoughts using the Dreadnoughts from the Battle for Black Reach set and spare weapon arms from his other Dreadnought kits. He's also added Forge World Icons to denote them as belonging to the Iron Hands Chapter, as well as pieces from the Warhammer 40,000 Basing Kit to the bases.
As I mentioned above, Jim has rather a lot of Dreadnoughts. I asked him what he like so much about them and he said 'with a Master of the Forge I can field loads of them, and look, look how cool a big group of Dreads looks!' Quite.
