Golden Demon: Studio Champions; World Eaters; Empire
As I mentioned on Friday's blog, this month's UK edition of White Dwarf featured all of the 2009 Golden Demon winners, including the dioramas Seb Perbet and Mike Anderson entered into the Open category. The Open category is one of the most hotly contested categories as even Games Workshop staff, including the sculptors and 'Eavy Metal team, are allowed to enter. Golden Demon: Studio Champions takes a closer look at both Seb's and Mike's dioramas, which won gold and bronze respectively, and sheds some light on the process the pair went through in modelling and painting their entries.
While I was passing through the Studio this morning I spotted Wade Pryce reorganising his cabinet. He explained that having his current modelling project on display helped motivate him to concentrate on it and went some way to counteract his tendency to flit from one project to the next.
Here's a look at a few of the model's Wade's recently added to his World Eaters army as well as some Empire conversions that Wade promises are the start to a mighty warhost.
-
Wade wanted to make a Chaos Lord that was clearly identifiable as having once been a Space Marine. He began with the Space Marine Commander kit and added a sword from a Bloodletter and a banner from the Empire Flagellants kit. The skull and rock on the base are from the Warhammer Basing Kit.
-
This is the fourth Daemon Prince Wade has made for his army. He modelled this one by converting Be'Lakor, adding an Ogre Irongut's head and an axe from an old metal Bloodletter champion. The base is from the plastic Chaos Terminator Lord.
-
Wade made these objectives for use with his World Eaters army. The sword is a Bloodletter's hellblade and the brazier is from the Corpse Cart kit, while all of the skulls have been added from the Skulls Bitz Pack.
-
This mad Chaos engine has a lower section made using two Hellcannon kits and a Defiler's body. The gun-arm was made by combing two Space Marine Predator autocannon turret weapons and the claw-arm uses parts from a Penitent Engine. Wade made the head by adding the blast shield from an Eldar Heavy Weapons platform to the Defiler's face plate.
-
Wade modelled his Grand Master using Archaon as a base, and the weapon from the Empire Templar Grand Master of The White Wolf model. He's also added a wolf skull from Logan Grimnar and various bits of Empire heraldry taken from the old metal Steam Tank. The wolf on the model's base is an old metal Chaos Warhound that Wade has Green Stuffed extra fur onto.
-
After completing his Grand Master Wade started work on a unit of Knights of the White Wolf. The model on the left has a head and arms from the Chaos Marauder kit. For the one on the right, Wade used the lance and shield arm from the Knightly Orders frame. However, he cut them at the forearm and attached the great weapon wielding arms from the Middenheim frame.
