Tyranid Warrior & Genestealer stage-by-stage; Tyranid conversions
Following on from yesterday's Tyranid stage-by-stage guides, Andy Hall and Jim Sowter have put together Tyranids: Genestealer Stage-by-Stage and Tyranids - Warriors Stage-by-Stage, so now no matter what Tyranid plastic kit you're assembling you'll find a handy guide in the Astronomican.
Also this morning, Rik Turner invited me to take some pictures of his new Tyranid conversions and we received even more emails from you guys showcasing your current hobby projects. Here's a look at Rik's conversions and a couple of your miniatures that caught my eye:
-
Rik converted a Forge World Trygon into a Trygon Prime by adding mandibles and the tail-tip from the plastic Trygon set. He also added toxin sacs and adrenal glands from the Carnifex kit. Click on the image to see how Rik's converted Forge World Trygon compares to his plastic one.

Like every other Tyranid player I've spoken to recently, Rik has converted a Tyranid Warrior Prime. He used Lictor legs, a Tyranid Warrior tail, a Ravener torso, head and set of scything talons, a Hive Tyrant's lash whip, an old metal Tyranid Warrior's bonesword and some extra armour plates taken from the Tyranid Monstrous Arms frame.
-
Greg Hamers converted his Mawloc using parts from the Trygon and swapped the standard mandibles for pieces from the Tyranid Monstrous Arms frame. He wanted the Mawloc to look as though it was bursting from the ground in its signature attack and made the base using insulation foam. Greg painted his Mawloc to look like it was part of an offshoot of Hive Fleet Leviathan and complemented his variation on the fleet's cream and purple scheme by adding blue.

Demetris Tampakoudis painted and modelled this Death Company Space Marine that looks like he'd give any Tyranid a run for its money in an assault. He made the corpse out of Imperial Guard Cadian components and Zombie head and hand. The Space Marine himself has a Space Wolves head and the kneeling legs from the Space Marine Command set.
