New articles in the White Dwarf Archive; Japan’s Grand Painting Contest
We've just added parts one and two of Drums of War, a six part narrative campaign for Warhammer, to the White Dwarf Archive. Written by Jeremy Vetock it pits the forces of the Empire against the Warriors of Chaos, but, with a little thought, its structure and premise can be adapted to work with whatever armies you and your friends collect.
Also this morning, I received an email from the staff in Games Workshop Japan. They've just held their annual Grand Painting Contest (similar to Golden Demon) and sent me some pictures of the best entries to feature here on the blog. The Grand Painting Contest has five categories: Best Games Day Miniature, Best Single Miniature, Best Freestyle Piece, Youngbloods and the Open Category.
Here's a look at some of the winners and a few other interesting entries:
-
This Bretonnian diorama was modelled and painted by Takahiro Terazono.
-
Ryouichi Hukuoka won the Open category for his painted 2009 Games Day model.
-
These Eldar Harlequins were painted by Hiroshi Shibui.
-
Hiroaki Takahashi painted and modelled this looted Ork vehicle, and won the Freestyle category.
-
Painted by Kerry James, this Ork Stormboy won the Best Single Miniature category.
-
This unit of Terminators was painted by Genki Tenkumo.
And I've just watched the last lorry leave our factory and drive into the proverbial sunset, laden with the last of the orders placed in time for Christmas. Anything you order online from now will be dispatched between Christmas and New Year. All of our Hobby Centres are open right up until Christmas Eve, however, so there's still time to make sure you've got enough glue to stick together all the hobby gifts your loved ones will be giving you on Christmas Day. You can find details of your nearest Hobby Centre and a handy map to help you get there using our Store Finder.
