Winter Campaign Maps; objective markers; Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay
After yesterday's look at winter-themed stratagems Andy Hall has gathered together the various ice-strewn campaign maps from around the Studio and asked hobby-guru Nick Bayton to explain how they were modelled and painted. You can read all about creating your own winter maps using the Mighty Empires and Planetary Empires sets in Winter War - Winter Campaign Maps. If you've been following the Winter War series of articles then this final one is a great way to tie everything you've learned together - why not run your own winter campaign and use the winter: bases, scenarios, environment rules, magic, terrain and stratagems covered in the Winter War series. Nick's tips from today's article can also be applied to painting your scenery and gaming boards or even for adding a polar cap to an existing campaign map.
I mentioned some weeks ago that the staff in the Warhammer World store had all begun new armies using the Battalion and Battleforce sets as starting points. Well this week they've been making objective markers to use alongside their armies.
-
Arno Dankers made this objective marker for use with his Dwarf army. The furnace and Dwarf are from the Thorek Ironbrow and the Anvil of Doom set, which Arno mounted on a 60mm Titan Base. He then scored the stone effect into the base with a modelling knife.
-
Scott Rischer used foliage from the Jungle Plants set and a piece of ruin from the old Warhammer 40,000 ruin set to create this objective marker for his Space Wolves army. Notice the piece of Land Raider track and side panel he's added to the base.
-
After finishing his Dwarf marker, Arno decided to make one for his Lizardmen army. This time he used pieces from the Arcane Ruin set and the Jungle Plants set, and mounted them on a blast template, though a large base works too.
-
Scott was in the process of finishing this objective off this morning to use alongside his Beastman army. The tree is from the Citadel Woods set and the shields and weapons are from the Beastmen frame.
The new edition of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay was released the other week by Fantasy Flight Games. The guys from our licensing department have decided to spend their last working day before Christmas in Bugmans trying it out. I wandered up to see how they were getting on, expecting them to be sat with a book each and some scraps of paper, and was amazed by the mound of books, dice, cards and other assorted stuff that comes with the game. Here's a look at the new set and its contents:
It's been a busy month for Fantasy Flight as they have also released a supplement for Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay called the Adventurer's Toolkit; The Frostmarch, an expansion to Talisman; the Radicals Handbook for Dark Heresy; and the first add-on pack for Warhammer Invasion, the Skavenblight Threat. There's more information on all of these on the Fantasy Flight website.
