Winter War: Scenarios; Warhammer buildings; Citizen’s Reward: Ends Midnight
For the first of our new articles this week, Andy Hall and Adam Troke have joined forces and come up with three winter-themed scenarios for you to play through. Winter War - Scenarios details a scenario for Warhammer, Warhammer 40,000 and The Lord of The Rings. I'm particularly looking forward to playing the 'Frozen Lake' where your units are as likely to fall into the icy depths as meet their end at the tip of a foe's blade.
Upstairs in Warhammer World it seems that everyone is busy making scenery in preparation for the New Year. The Warhammer World store staff are working on a new The Lord of The Rings game board, which I've taken some pictures off to share with you in future blogs. For now, here's a look at some of the Warhammer buildings Ray and his team have been working on this week.
-
The hay-barn was made from the Chapel kit, which has had the walls hollowed out and cut down. The roof of the well was made by combining the roofs from two of the lean-tos from the Fortified Manor kit, while the wall is a section cut from the wall in the Fortified Manor set that joins the Chapel to the Watchtower.
-
This building is very simple to make and is basically a Chapel on top of a Watchtower. Ray left off the top section of the Watchtower and cut the bottom section off of the Chapel and then glued the two pieces together. The wooden supports you can see on the overhang are the ones from the Watchtower, which have been cut to size.
-
This double-sized Watchtower was made by gluing two Watchtowers together, though obviously only using the bottom piece from one and the roof from another. The balcony was made from the left-over roof from the bottom Watchtower and was cut to an 'L' shape to allow it to be glued around the building.
-
This building requires more work than the others. The left-hand side of it is a complete Chapel while the right has a Watchtower roof and the lower part from another Chapel kit. As with all of the buildings, Ray and his team used Razor Saws to cut down the buildings, after first using a ruler to mark out where they'd need to cut.
The building below is the Fortified Manor. Ray's top tip when assembling buildings, or any large plastic kit, is to use some elastic bands to hold the pieces together while the glue dried. This makes for a stronger join and allows you to 'get on with cutting up and gluing together more buildings and drinking tea'.
And in case you've forgotten, the Citizen's Reward promotion (the one where you get a free £10 voucher for every £100 spent) ends at midnight tonight. So if you know of a friend or relative who still hasn't picked up your gift yet, then today's a good time to give them a not-so subtle prod.
