Legion of The Damned; Planetstrike battle report; Fortress of Redemption
This morning is one of the most exciting mornings we've had in the office, because the new Legion of the Damned miniatures are now available to advance order, which means we've just received a set of them to stick together and paint! Virtually every sculptor in the Studio has had a hand in designing these great new models. And the enthusiasm they've had for these iconic Space Marines really shows through on the finished models. Each of the Damned Legionnaires is adorned with flames and skulls, and all of their armour looks unique and has intricate detail sculpted onto it. And if that's not enough they all carry custom boltguns, and have individual shoulder pads and backpacks that are covered in detail. Some of them even have a scenic piece of rubble or a skull under their feet, which you can add to with the Warhammer 40,000 Basing Kit.
Adam Troke and Andy Hall have just finished writing up a scenario and battle report featuring the new Fortress of Redemption. Find out if Adam's Dark Angels managed to hold out against Andy's Orks in The Last Bastion: A Planetstrike Battle Report.
The Fortress of Redemption was only released last Saturday, but it makes such a great objective that there have already been quite a few popping up on gaming tables around the building. Here are two that caught my eye this morning:
Remember the gameboard Ray and the Warhammer scenery team were working on last week? Well they've now finished it and it has taken pride of place in the Warhammer World store. The dirt and weathering near the base of the Fortress was achieved by lightly drybrushing various shades of brown onto the walls, starting from the bottom and moving upward. Notice how even the multi-storey buildings are dwarfed by the Fortress.
Yan has used the Forge World Weathering Powders (check out last Thursday's blog for more on these) to add the dirt, dust and rust effects to his Fortress. Yan hasn't glued his Fortress together in three sections, which you can see if you click on the image above. This allows him to use some or all of the sections in his games.
Over the weekend we opened two new Hobby Centres in the UK: one in Stevenage, managed by John Lie and one in Chesterfield, managed by Rob Campbell. If you're local to Stevenage then pop down and pit your army against John's infantry-heavy Imperial Guard, and while you're there you can check out the new gaming tables he's making for the store. Oh, and both John and Rob have asked me to invite you to their respective store's Grand Opening parties: Chesterfield's is Saturday the 5th of December, where you can help name the store's club and take part in modelling workshops, and Stevenage's is on the 19th of December, where there'll be all manner of unusual hobby activities for you to join in with. You can find more information on and directions to these and any of our other stores using Store Finder.
And before I finish, today is your very last chance to enter our Christmas Wish List Prize Draw. So if you haven't entered yet, make sure you do so before midnight tonight. You'll find full details of the competition here.
Right, I'm off to practise painting skulls and flames...
