Crimson Fists stage-by-stage; Imperial Fists; Blood Angels; Imperial Dragons
After finishing his Crimson Fists scenario yesterday, Adam enlisted Nick Bayton's considerable painting skill to put together this Space Marines: Painting Crimson Fists stage-by-stage article. It's also got some hints for painting Space Marines in general.
After seeing Matt Hutson's Imperial Fists on yesterday's blog, Rich Taylor swung by my desk with his own Imperial Fists. We got talking about Space Marine kits and the results you can get by mixing the many, many kits available (I'm currently combining Space Wolves and Dark Angels kits to create some pious savages). Anyway, Rich has an entire cabinet of Space Marines in all sorts of Chapter colour schemes.
Here's a look a some of Rich's more interesting Space Marine units:
-
The lightning claws used in this unit have all been taken from the plastic Chaos Terminator Lord kit; Rich felt that a Blood Angels Assault Squad should look even more ferocious that a standard Space Marine one. Notice the squad's Sergeant that's been converted from a Space Marine Veteran - Rich has replaced the model's power sword with a storm shield from the Space Marine Command frame.
-
Rich converted these Assault Marines to represent trainee Chaplains but uses them as Death Company when gaming. He's used a variety of skull helms from the Chaos Space Marines kit and the Warriors of Chaos set. Rich added extra purity seals to reinforce the Chaplain's piousness and some robed pieces from the Black Templars' frame.
-
This squad belongs to a Chapter Rich created called the Imperial Dragons. Rich has used a Bretonnian Knight's helmet on his Company Champion and a Night Lords helmet on his Commander, who he's also given lightning claws taken from the Space Marine Veteran models. I particularly like the banner that Rich hand-painted. Apparently the trick is to use very thin paint and a good brush. I suspect a steady hand helps too.
-
Rich painted his Imperial Fists before the new Bitz Packs were available and hand-painted all of the icons. For the autocannon, Rich started with the heavy bolter and added the barrel from the Baneblade's co-axial autoncannon and the ammo feed from an assault cannon. Rich painted the yellow by mixing Bleached Bone and Iyanden Darksun, adding more Bleached Bone for the highlights.
And, we've opened two new Hobby Centres this week: one in Kettering in the UK and one in Kiel, Germany. You can find more details on these and any of our other Hobby Centres through Store Finder.
