Incoming: Beastmen; Skaven; Eldar
The Skaven weren't the only fur-clad warriors clamoring for attention over the weekend as we announced that the Beastmen are coming in February. If you subscribe to our newsletter you'll have found out on Sunday and had a first look at the new cover art. For those of you that haven't yet subscribed, Adam Troke has put together this Incoming: Beastmen article, which briefly introduces the Beastmen and includes the new cover-art. The Beastmen may be coming but the ratmen are everywhere. As Sabine Wolfmeier, from Games Workshop Germany's Customer Service team, reminded me this morning when she sent me these pictures of her Skaven army:
-
Sabine has painted about 4,000 points of Skaven, which lets her play large games and also gives her plenty of choice in smaller games. Notice the Plague Priest at the front-left. Sabine modelled this using a Slann Mage Priest's palanquin, a couple of Rat Swarms and the Dark Elves Cauldron of Blood.
-
Sabine painted her Plague Furnace in sections before fully assembling it. This helped her paint the wooden areas that would otherwise have been obscured by the crew and the censor. Click on the image for a closer look. Sabine achieved the texture on the wooden areas by painting and highlighting in thin lines.
-
This regiment of Clanrats' banner is the first one that Sabine has ever painted free-hand. She felt that the angular lines of Skaven symbols would be easier than the designs of other armies. It is important to her that all of her Clanrat units have different banner designs; to show that various clans have sent units to war.
-
Sabine has painted this Grey Seer in the same colour scheme as the Grey Seer on the Screaming bell in the image above. This allows her to use the one on foot to represent the other one should the Screaming Bell be destroyed in battle. While the slight differences in their paint schemes allows her to use them both in larger games.
Before I end: the UK Warhammer 40,000 Throne of Skulls Heat Two was held in Warhammer World over the weekend. Mark Burstall played fantastically well, winning all six of his games and the tournament with his Ork army. Simone Di Tomaso and his Chaos Space Marine army came second, knocking Kiarn Reddy's Eldar into third place through victory points. I had a great time watching the event and there was a great mix of players and armies there. I took plenty of pictures of the armies that were nominated for the 'Best Painted' award and also some of interesting conversions I spotted as I walked around.
Here's a look at my favourite army from the weekend:
