Space Hulk Q&A; Games Day conversions; Space Marine movie
We've added another article to the White Dwarf Archive today: The Lord of The Rings: Middle-earth in Flames looks at map-based campaigns for The Lord of The Rings Strategy Battle Game. Also available for you to download today is the official Space Hulk Q&A where Jervis Johnson clears up your Space Hulk quandaries.
Last Sunday was UK Games Day where, camera in hand, I went in search of some interesting conversions and great paint jobs I could share with you here on the blog. And there really was no shortage of fantastic miniatures. And the tables they were fighting over were some of the best I've seen.
I'm still sifting through the hundreds of images taken at the event and I'm sure they'll be cropping up in the blog for weeks to come. In the meantime here are just a few of my favourite ones so far:
Owen McKenzie from Games Workshop Newport converted this Land Speeder Storm for a participation game featuring Sergeant Telion. There were three games featuring Telion and in each he and his Scouts honed their skills in a particular area of warfare. He added Telion to the crew of the Speeder by gluing Telion's head and weapon arm to one of the plastic Scout crew. The extra sensors on the front of the Land Speeder were made from plastic rod, while Owen used brass rod to increase the high of the flying stand.
For the second of Sergeant Telion's Scout training missions, Rob MacTaggart from the Swansea store made this running, close-combat version of Telion. He first cut and repositioned a set of kneeling scout legs and then glued Telion's top half to the legs, before sculpting Telion a new backside from Green Stuff. Both of Telion's arms were then replaced by plastic sScout arms.
This final version of Sergeant Telion was converted by Luke Church for the third of the Telion participation games. Luke used the plastic crouching Scout legs and Telion's upper body. The ghillie suit was sculpted from Green Stuff and had the brass etched leaves from the Warhammer Basing Kit added to it. The leaves on the models base are from the Catachan Heavy Weapon frame.

Rob Gibb converted Sigvald the Magnificent into the Blood Angels Primarch Sanguinius for the siege of the Emperor's Palace that Games Workshop Aberdeen were running. He's also used the bolt pistol arm from a Sisters of Battle Canoness and the wings from a Warmaster Giant Eagle. The skulls on the models base are from the Warhammer Basing Kit.

And besieging the Emperor's Palace was Perturabo, Primarch of the Iron Warriors. Perturabo was made from a converted Chaos Terminator Lord by Mark Holmes from Games Workshop Doncaster. Mark used a lot of Green Stuff to re-shape the models armour plates and added a servo harness from the Space Marine Techmarine. The hammer was made from an old Imperial Guard searchlight.

James Hawke from Games Workshop Derby converted this Warhammer Siege Tower into a thing of Nurgle for the siege of Talabheim where dozens of such towers assaulted the walls of the massive Empire city. James used pieces from the Corpse Cart, Arcane Ruin kit and dozens of Nurglings to 'Nurgle-ify' his siege tower. He then added a Hellcannon to the top of the tower and blended it all together with Green Stuff.

To my surprise and utter delight, I was handed one of these at Games Day. And yes, you read it right. But if you're still unconvinced you can click on the image for a closer view, and go here for more info.
Every day this week we'll be adding images of some of the fantastically painted Golden Demon entries to the Astronomican. If you want to read more about this year's Games Day or have a go at spotting yourself in a photo or two, then check out the UK community and events page, which will be featuring in-depth coverage of the event throughout this week.
