Games Day UK
UK Games Day is only three weeks away, and all around the building people are preparing stands and displays for the big day. And for the first time ever, Rob and I are too. Yup, we're going to Games Day, which means you can swing by and chat to us about anything games-workshop.com related. We'll also be taking our camera and notepads, so if you've some nicely painted and/or converted miniatures you'd like us to feature here on 'What's New Today' then bring them along to us on the day. UK Games Day is just the first of two outings for the 'What's New Today' team over the next four weeks, and I'll be journeying to Spain at the end of September to see what hobby I can uncover, but I'll tell you more about that next week.
So having decided to attend Games Day, I set about finding out who and what else will be there - basically I wanted to know what cool stuff I could go and look at on my lunch break. I was particularly interested in what the Studio were taking, I'd heard rumour it was something never seen before. Now normally I can pass through the Studio without incident but this morning I found my way blocked by Studio pit bull Matt Toone. Now, just in case you think me a wimp for turning back at the first hurdle, I've taken a photo of Matt to illustrate his scariness.
So whatever's going on in the Studio its ultra hush-hush. But don't worry, I have a plan - at some point they'll have to move whatever it is from the Studio to a van and when they do I'll be waiting....
And here we have an artist's impression of Matt as a Space Marine. Actually, it's a still from the forthcoming Ultramarines: A Warhammer 40,000 Movie. Codex Pictures are the team behind the film, which will be released on DVD soon, and they'll be on hand at Games Day to answer your questions. More importantly, you'll be able to view a sneak peek of the movie itself.
Codex Pictures are just one of the many licensees (other companies who make Games Workshop themed things - computer games and the like) who'll have stands at Games Day. THQ has a fantastic line-up of activities: to celebrate the forthcoming release of third person action/shooter Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine and the second expansion for the real-time strategy game Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II, their stand will feature a specially constructed theatre in which they will showcase exclusive content from both games. They will also be giving away a "For the Emperor" ringtone and Ultramarines patches. While Fantasy Flight, who make a range of board, card and roleplaying games set in the Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 universes, will be demonstrating some of their favourite games. What's even more exciting is that for the first time ever, you'll be able to buy THQ computer games and Fantasy Flight games at Games Day.
-
THQ will be bringing their life-sized Ork and Space Marine suits to Games Day. Yes, I said suits - there are actors inside them and they'll be walking around and brandishing their weapons throughout the day.
-
You'll be able to have your picture taken with the Space Marines and Orks. You might even be able to goad them into battling it out, let's hope so.
-
This Space Marine's eyes glow red when he's angry, green when he's not, and flicker at Christmas.
-

Deathwatch, Fantasy Flights newest roleplaying game where you play the part of a Deathwatch Space Marine, will be available to buy at Games Day.
-

The Horus Heresy is a gargantuan board game that recreates the battle for the Emperor's palace and again will be available on the day.
-

Space Hulk Death Angel is a co-operative card game where player work together to survive against hordes of Genestealers, and you'll be able to play and purchase it on the day.
