New Skaven Bitz Packs; Warhammer 40,000 Terrain
In a rather cunning move, the Council of Thirteen (the clandestine rulers of the Skaven) have sent forth a pack of Skaven reinforcements to help their minions claim the Island of Blood. You'll find all of the Skaven sets that are now available to advance order below, as well as the Clanrats (you'll need bodies to glue those sling arms to) and the Rat Ogres (in case you're inspired to form a pack around Spikegouger and co.).
After announcing 'The Great Gameboard Giveaway' yesterday, I received a couple of questions about the competition. Most of you wondered if you could only submit examples of Warhammer terrain. In answer to your questions: no, you can enter the competition with a piece of terrain from any of our game systems, and yes, you do need to be registered on games-workshop.com to enter. If you're not yet registered you can do so here. Speaking of Warhammer 40,000 terrain, this morning I continued my search for great pieces of terrain to show you and came across some converted terrain that Gareth Williams has been working on.

Gareth mounted this Khorne bastion on a lake of blood, which he made by painting the base in Mechrite Red and then coating it in a mix of Water Effects, Baal Red and some watered-down Blood Red. Gareth made the bubbles by rolling Green Stuff into small balls and then cutting them in half and gluing them in place. You'll notice that he's also added skulls from the Skulls Bitz pack to the roof and to the river.

For his Tzeentch bastion, Gareth wanted to create the effect that it was growing out of the ground and floating (why not?). He made the giant rock from pink foam (the type used to insulate buildings) and blended the bastion into it using air-drying clay. To make the bastion look suitably chaotic, Gareth added icons from the Tzeentch Chaos Icons Bitz Pack and some spikes and chains from the Chaos Tank Accessories frame.

Gareth's Nurgle bastion has marshland surrounding it, which he made in the same way as the river of blood; though this time he used green and brown washes instead of reds. The reeds sticking out of the marsh were made from the bristles of a stiff brush. Again, Gareth has made good use of the Chaos Bitz Packs and added several icons and spikes. Gareth painted the rust on the bastion. He started with a basecoat of Charadon Granite and then stippled it with Vermin Brown, before lightly drybrushing it with Boltgun Metal.

Having decided his soul needed saving, Gareth turned his back on Chaos and made this Imperial weapons emplacement. He used the bottom section of a bastion to form the bunker and added the missile rack from a Manticore tank. You can use the rest of your Manticore to model a burnt out vehicle, adding yet another piece of terrain to your collection - that's certainly what Gareth intends to do with his.
