Ultramarines; New Zealand, Austrian & Belgian sites updated
Do you remember the Khemri gaming table that Ray and the guys from the Warhammer World scenery team have been working on? Well, this morning I heard tale that it was finished, and popped up to the hall to check it out. However, you'll have to wait until tomorrow to see it because I got distracted by Mat Murphy-Kane's Ultramarines. Mat's models are currently on display in Warhammer World's cabinet, and his Roboute Guilliman conversion is particularly impressive.
-
Matt made Roboute using Archaon's body and sword (the Archaon on Foot model was a limited edition Games Day model from a few years back), and a pair of Space Marine Terminator legs. He then added the banner from the High Elf Prince set and a head from an Ultramarine Honour Guard. Matt sculpted all of the extra detailing on the model, such as the leg greaves, from Green Stuff.

Matt uses this miniature as the Sergeant for his Sternguard squad. The top half of the miniature is from a Tyranic War Veteran whose combat knife Matt replaced with a power sword from the Space Marine Command Squad set (the banner is also from this set). The model's lower half was taken from a Space Marine Veteran.

If you check out page 108 of Codex: Space Marines you'll see the old version of Marneus Calgar and see where Mat got his inspiration for the banner. Click on the image to see all of Marneus - notice the red detailing Mat's added stippled around the edge of the cloak.

Mat basecoated his Ultramarine's armour with Regal Blue and then highlighted them with: a 1:1 mix of Regal Blue and Ultramarines Blue, a 1:2 mix of Regal Blue and Ultramarines blue, Ultramarines Blue, and finally, a 1:1 mix of Ultramarines Blue and Space Wolves Grey. He uses Space Wolves Grey rather than Skull White as it gives a subtler, warmer highlight.
-
The skin was basecoated with Dark Flesh and then highlighted with: a 1:1 mix of Dark Flesh and Bronzed Flesh, Bronzed Flesh, a 1:1 mix of Bronzed Flesh and Elf Flesh, Elf Flesh, and finally with a small amount of Bleached Bone. The gold areas were basecoated with Shining Gold, washed with Devlan Mud, and highlight with Shining Gold then Mithril Silver.
-
Mat converted this Veteran model by adding a heavy bolter and backpack from the Space Marine Devastator set. To paint the Ultramarine symbols, Mat begins with a Chaos Black undercoat and then applies a basecoat of Shadow Grey. Next, he highlights with a 2:1 mix of Shadow Grey and Space Wolves Grey, and then a 1:1 mix of Shadow Grey and Space Wolves Grey, then Space Wolves Grey and finally, Skull White.
And there's some extra good news today for hobbyists in New Zealand, Austria and Belgium - you can now pay for your orders using your own currency. All you have to do is select your country using the 'Country Select' drop-down menu at the bottom of this page.
