Introduction
NEW! JAGO KALLOWEN DATASHEET!
At the bottom of this page is a pdf file of a new Datasheet for the Lucky 13s Campaign, penned by Christopher Allen. As the campaign builds momentum towards it's climactic final battle, Colonel Jago Kallowen leads from the front, taking his men toward a celebrated victory or certain death! Only you can decide the fate of the Mordant 13th...
WHAT IS IT?
The Lucky 13s is a six month-long Apocalypse Campaign that will run in all North American Hobby Centers and many Independent Retailers. It is essentially a series of six major, in-store Apocalypse events, supported by a cast of activities that leads you towards membership in "The Lucky 13s" club of Apocalypse enthusiasts!
WHY ARE WE DOING IT?
We want to show our hobbyists that we are committed to the great freedoms that the Apocalypse and Planetstrike formats give to us all. The only restrictions are your imagination and maybe floor space. Running a six month-long campaign gives people a chance to plan out their forces, get some painting done and, most importantly, work together to create a sense of something larger. Hopefully this campaign will give you, our hobbyists, an opportunity to create your own myths and legends.
WHAT WILL WE DO?
We've created an evocative story line based around a hard-bitten, rag-tag Imperial Guard Regiment, the Mordant "Lucky 13s". This story line will evolve over the year and be shaped through store reports. The next chapter in the story and a corresponding scenario will be determined by consistent themes found in the reports.
• Six Mega-Battle Game Scenarios. These will be throughout the year, once per month and will involve a cast of armies so all players will have a reason to participate. We'll post the next scenario in the series online for you to download shortly after each mega battle.
• After Battle Reports. A write-up each month that collects the reports from the field and continues the story line. Each month we will also post a list of the key players from across the country that contributed the most to each mega battle.
• Certificates of Achievement and Lucky 13s Patches. These are for those players that become members of the Lucky 13s Campaign Club by participating in 13 different events.
BESIDES THE MEGA BATTLES, WHAT OTHER KINDS OF ACTIVITIES CAN I EXPECT?
In addition to the mega battles, you can expect a myriad of different hobby events in between, giving players a variety of ways to participate in 13, Lucky 13s events over the campaign. These events will vary from store to store, but you can expect activities like the ones listed below:
• An Apocalypse Gaming League. Participants play one focused game per month for the league (either 2-on-2 or 1-on-1) to help advance the local story line.
• Apocalypse Objective Building Sessions. These will be linked to the scenarios and story line and should reward players with Strategic Assets or other benefits in the game.
• Apocalypse Terrain Building Sessions. These will be linked to the scenarios and story line and should reward players with Strategic Assets or other benefits in the game.
• Apocalypse Story Writing Competition. Background stories are a very important aspect to creating an evocative campaign, and often get players more invested in their games.
• Apocalypse Datasheet Design Competition. Design special engines of war, or elite forces of hardened veterans. Let your imagination run wild!
• Army Basecoating and Speed Painting Sessions. Painting 3,000 points from scratch can seem incredibly daunting, unless you've picked up some speed painting skills along the way.
• Apocalypse Iron Builder and Vehicle Builder Sessions. Why sit around at home and assemble your models alone? Come in and socialize while getting closer to your goal of a completed army.
• Lucky 13s Lead-up Games. Combat Patrol or Kill Team type scenarios that have added benefits or repercussions on the Mega Battle. For example, if the player's elite unit can move in and secure the com tower, they can call down an orbital bombardment on the enemy in turn one of the Mega attle.
Contact your local store to find out what exciting events they have planned!
WHAT IS THE LUCKY 13s CAMPAIGN CLUB?
Each participating store should run ten or more events and activities over the year that are under the auspices of "The Lucky 13s" Campaign. When you attend your first event, you will be noted on a player tracking sheet like the one shown below. As you participate in each event a store employee will put a stamp on your player tracking sheet entry (for the six month league, players get one stamp per game each month). Because we know there are hundreds of different ways to interact with Apocalypse, we're trying to make sure that there will be different activities and events that appeal to everyone.
Note: Games Workshop Hobby Centers will use their Hobby Center Approved stamps to indicate on your passport card that you have meet one of the requirements above, while Independent Retailers will each determine their own way of denoting your participation. You must choose your local store wisely, as all thirteen of the stamps must be acquired from one store.
WHAT ABOUT PLAYERS THAT ALREADY PART OF THE LUCKY 13S CLUB FROM LAST YEAR?
Players that completed their Lucky 13s Campaign Card from last year are of course welcomed to participate again this year. If they so choose, they can participate in the required 13 events to fill out their Player Tracking Sheet to earn another patch and certificate, but they also reap additional benefits. Those players are that are already part of the Lucky 13s Campaign Club from last year's campaign are denoted as Hardened Veterans, and if they bring in their Lucky 13s Campaign Patch as proof of their achievement, (their names are also in the Lucky 13s Roll of Honor), they gain additional benefits in any mega battles they participate in. These benefits are noted in the scenarios themselves and will change as the campaign progresses. In addition, if your store is using the optional Army Agenda rules (see the optional rules PDF at the bottom of the Mega Battle page of this article), players that are Hardened Veterans start the campaign with 10 Army Agenda Points.
