Scenario: The Breach
The Breach
This scenario recreates a situation such as the breach in the walls of Fortress Maladon, the Gates of Corinth or any number of glorious stands against overwhelming odds. The defender will find himself hard-pressed to survive against the full might of the enemy army until help arrives. Should he hold out long enough, however, the advantage of overwhelming numbers will change sides and the defender will become the aggressor.
Army Lists
The defender selects two armies, both using the normal force organisation charts. The first army should be 1000 points (the defending army), while the second should be 2000 points in size (the reinforcing army).
The attacker chooses a single, 2000-point army. Of course, if your collections allow, you can always scale up the battles - just keep to the same ratio of defenders to attackers used here and you won't go far wrong.
Deployment
The game is played on a 6'x4' board. A line of fortifications, preferably a fortress wall, should run across the width of the board, near one short board edge, as shown. The players will also need to decide who is the defender and who is the attacker.
The defender starts by deploying his defending army within 12" of the breach.
The attacker then deploys his army anywhere outside of the fortress more than 24" away from any defending models.
The reinforcing army is held in reserve.
Objective
The attackers have blasted a sizable hole in the wall of the fortress and are seeking to storm through it as quickly as possible. The small defending force must hold their ground in an effort to delay the attackers until reinforcements can arrive.
The attacker wins if he can move two or more infantry units off through the breach and off of the board (you might want to increase this number in larger games).
The defenders win in any other situation.
Mission Special Rules
Deep Strike (defenders only), Reserves and Standard Mission Game Length.
The Breach: The area of the breach should measure roughly 12" across, and counts as difficult terrain. Models may not cross the walls at any other point.
Defenders: The models in the defending force are resigned to their fate and are willing to die for their cause. They may choose to pass or fail any Leadership or Morale tests for the duration of the game.
Reserves: The defender's reinforcements can enter play by Deep Strike, or by moving onto the board from the edge. They may enter from either long board edge.
