Building the Stegadon
Building a Stegadon is not especially hard, but there are a huge amount of parts (sixty, in all) and if you've never made one before it can be quite daunting. We decided to build one (With some handy tips from Dave Thomas and Martin Footit) and take pictures and notes along the way. Here then, is our massive Stegadon assembly article. If you follow these instructions carefully - and refer frequently to the instruction guide that comes in your Stegadon box set - you'll find you'll have built a great-looking jungle beasty in no time at all.
There are lots of alternative options in the Stegadon kit too, such as two heads, two crests and multiple weapon and crew options. Where this is the case, we've presented the different options; some of the pictures can be clicked on to show alternative views and components.
To prepare your Stegadon assembly, clip the parts off of the frame with Plastic Cutters and clean up the pieces with a Hobby Knife. The model is assembled with Plastic Glue.

Step 1:
Glue the two tail parts [10] together. -

Step 2:
Glue the two parts of the tail tip [4] together. -

Step 3:
Fix the tail tips to the main tail body as shown. -

Step 4:
Glue the two sides of the Stegadon body [7] together as shown. -

Step 5:
Affix the first tail plate [3] to the Stegadon's tail. -

Step 6:
Glue the next tail plate [3] above the first, as shown. -

Step 7:
Glue the Stegadon's tongue [2] into its mouth, inside the head piece [1] as shown. If you want to use the other Stegadon head (the one with the closed mouth) you don't need to use the tongue at all. -

Step 8:
Glue the other side of the Stegadon's head [1] to the first. It should look like this when assembled. If you're using the other Stegadon head, you just need to glue the two halves together - click the image to see what they look like when they're attached. -

Step 9:
The Stegadon comes with two crests [9] either of which can be fitted with either head. Choose the crest you want and glue it into place, as shown. -

Step 10:
Both crests have recesses to you to attach two large horns [13]. Fit them on as shown. If you've used the other head, click the image to see how it should look. -

Step 11:
The Stegadon back [5] comes in two parts, which need to be glued together as shown. -

Step 12:
When the back has had enough time to set properly, attach it to the main Stegadon body. -

Step 13:
Next, attach the completed tail to the main Stegadon body. -

Step 14:
Fix the pelvic plate [8] to the top of the Stegadon's back. -

Step 15:
The Stegadon's neck [6] comes in two parts, which must be glued together. -

Step 16:
Attach the completed collar to the Stegadon's body. -

Step 17:
Attach the Stegadon's head to the body. -

Step 18:
Along the Stegadon's back there are a series of notches where the Stegadon spikes [15] fit. Attach these into place. -

Step 19:
Each of the Stegadon's legs [11 & 12] come in two parts. These need to be glued together, ready for attachment to the Stegadon's body. -

Step 20:
Fix the legs to the body of the Stegadon. -

Step 21:
Glue the stone tablet to the Stegadon's foot. You might prefer to glue the stone tablet to the base first, but in our experience it works better this way around. -

Step 22:
Fix the Stegadon to the base. You might want to keep it separate from the base before you paint the Stegadon itself - that choice depends on your painting style.
