Introduction
The Island of Blood is an incredible place to do battle - ravaged by dread magics in an earlier age, it now plays host to incredible secrets and a magical item of unfathomable power. A legacy from the age of Aenarion the Defender, the Phoenix Stone is a gem that has bound into it the power of ancient High Elf mages and was the means by which a terrible calamity was averted thousands of years ago. Now, the Skaven of Clan Klaw plot and scheme to recover it. Through arcane means they have circumnavigated the island's eldritch defences and penetrating the sanguine mists that enshroud the island. Now, all that stands between the Skaven invaders and the Phoenix Stone is a High Elf taskforce led by Prince Althran - the fate of the Warhammer world hangs in the balance.
When writing about the Island of Blood and preparing scenery to showcase the battles fought there, we had a very strong image in mind. The island has been warped and mutated to an incredible level - it's surrounded by swirling blood red mists and the plants there are twisted and, perhaps, even sentient. All this makes for a fantastic setting for a game of Warhammer.
It's a simple matter to make your own tabletop just as evocative as stories told of the Island of Blood. Games Workshop produces a range Citadel scenery that resonates the weird and wonderful world of Warhammer. All you need do is decide what pieces to add to your collection, purchase them, assemble them and paint them and you too can be playing on your very own version of the Island of Blood.
Over the next few pages, we'll take a look at some of the scenery we've prepared here in the Studio, and explain how you can go about enhancing your own battlefields with thematic scenery.
