Part 8: Ready for battle?
Today's the day the guys are supposed to have finished painting the armies they planned out way back in Part 1. However they're both entirely useless and have failed miserably. I jest: they're actually within touching distance of finishing off a full army each - not bad for eight week's work. By the time they play their game next week they'll even have added an extra unit or two and be ready to take part in the global battle for the Island of Blood, which takes place in all Hobby Centres on the 23rd of October. Anyway, over to Adam and Andy for this week's update of their progress. Cue excuses...
-
Adam: I have failed! I fell short of my painting target by 20 Clanrats and a Rat Ogre. Plus I've still got two movement trays to finish. I am so ashamed. But the good news is I have painted 40 more Clanrats since last week, and the remaining 20 just need some finishing touches. So Andy will be facing off against my whole force next week.

And the reason I didn't finish the Clanrats - I decided to paint two units of Packmasters and Giant Rats. I know I'm supposed to be finishing The Island of Blood stuff off but I can't help but get distracted by other Skaven units, they're just so cool! There's currently a Doomwheel sat on my Paint Station, but I definitely won't paint it until I've finished those Clanrats, definitely...

Andy: Like Adam, I've failed to paint all of the miniatures from the army list I wrote in Part 1 - I've yet to finish the five Ellyrian Reavers. Though they are almost finished and I'm confident that by next week's game I'll have them and a Repeater Bolt Thrower painted. Overall, I'm happy with my efforts over the last two months - the weekly deadlines (the ones that I've hit...) have been great motivators and I'd highly recommend getting together with your gaming friends and trying something similar.

This week I finally got round to modelling and painting the second mage, and decided to convert him a little so that he looked different from my other one. I clipped off the ball of energy the model is stood on and instead mounted him on the floating stones from the High Elf Mage kit. I also cut off the top of the staff and replaced it with a piece from the High Elf Mage kit; simple, but effective.
